Meet the Teacher: Ms. Kyriazis
All About Me
Ms. Kyriazis was born and raised in Toronto, Ontario where she still resides. She is currently teaching core subjects (language arts, mathematics, science & social studies) to a grade 5 class as well as language arts to a grade 6 class at a private elementary school located in Scarborough, ON.
Ms. Kyriazis graduated from the University of Toronto majoring in Classical Civilizations and minoring in French as a Second Language and Celtic Studies. She always wanted to be a teacher and pursued her dreams in educating children by obtaining a Bachelor of Education from the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education (OISE/UT). Ms. Kyriazis is also an International Languages Instructor for the TDSB teaching Greek to elementary students and has been tutoring in mathematics for over 10 years.
In addition, Ms. Kyriazis is an advocate for children's rights. She believes that learning happens both outside and inside the classroom. She tries to even out the playing field between privileged and marginalized children by fundraising in order to provide all children the with chance to join in various field trips and participate in extra-curricular activities, including ones that are sports related.
In her leisure time, Ms. Kyriazis loves to read and write. Among her favourite books are The Breadwinner Trilogy, Iqbal, and anything written by Agatha Christie! Moreover, Ms. Kyriazis loves to travel so that she can learn more about people from around the world and their traditions, and build bridges between different cultures! She believes diversity is beautiful. Some of the places she has traveled to include: Greece, Turkey, Hungary, Slovakia, Austria, Czech Republic, Albania, Serbia, Bulgaria, Slovenia, Croatia, Montenegro, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Dominican Republic and many more!
Ms. Kyriazis also enjoys being active and places great emphasis on staying healthy by eating healthy! She believes that it is important to model a healthy lifestyle for students and to encourage them to make healthy eating choices in life.
Furthermore, Ms. Kyriazis is a member and former volunteer of the Hellenic Hope Center for Persons with Special Needs Inc. and Autism Ontario.
By and large, Ms. Kyriazis is passionate about everything that she does and that includes working with children! Her aspirations are to make a difference in children's lives and to encourage them to be agents of change and proper democratic citizens. Children are our future!
