|Welcome to Ms. Kyriazis' Grade 5 classroom!|
In January, the grade 5's and 6's focused on narrative writing and reviewed the "Story Mountain" and its components -- the hook, the problem, the rising action, the turning point (climax), the falling action and the conclusion. We explored the four different leads: the snapshot lead, the action lead, the talking lead and the question lead -- techniques used to "hook" the reader. We also learned about figurative language and more specifically about onomatopoeia. We explored the differences between revising and editing. As a culminating activity, the grade 5's and 6's were asked to write their very own story book following all the steps of the writing process! Everyone was super excited about this task, and put forth their best efforts! The final products definitely impressed us all! The grade 5's not only wrote their books, but also creatively illustrated them, laminated the pages, and had their books spiral-bound. It was very rewarding seeing the grade 5's and 6's take such pride in their work and want to share their books with everyone! The feedback was overwhelming! We congratulate the grade 5's and 6's on their success and encourage everyone at our school to continue to read their picture books, which will be displayed in our hallways! The next step to look into is converting their books into e-books using Book Creator.
